It seems like yesterday I was in my twenties. I remember being in college and having my appendix out - the last thing on my mind as they were wheeling me into the operating room was how to pay for the surgery. Being twenty and not-so-aware of money management, I had a vague feeling that my parents would pay the bills, or that my limited college health insurance plan would take care of things. Thankfully, things worked out fine. My parents had a good policy that still covered me, and all we (they) had to pay was a $250. deductible. But, as a slightly older adult, I made many decisions to go without healthcare coverage, naively believing I’d never get sick. In my mind, I could either spend $300 a month for a policy, or spend the $300 paying my college and car loans. Read the rest »

After hearing the phrase “supporting the troops” so many times over the past few years, I’ve begun to think that the military isn’t listening to their own slogan. In the article “Lawmakers seek to ensure benefits for war’s ’sole survivors’”, the Los Angeles Times writes:
